At Beauty in Boudoir, we want you to leave your shoot feeling confident and empowered. That starts with building trust and communication with your photographer before you ever step into the studio.

To help you feel comfortable, we want to share our values when it comes to trust and communication in boudoir photography, as well as some tips to set you up for success.

Why Trust and Communication Matter for Boudoir Photography

Vulnerability is a key part of any boudoir shoot. Pushing yourself to do something that's outside your comfort zone helps you grow and build your confidence.

But starting out, you might feel nervous or even scared. If you don't trust your photographer, you're not going to be able to move past your nerves and have a positive experience.

Communicating with your photographer builds trust between you. It's important for you to be open and honest with them, but also important that they share their process with you so you know what to expect.

How to Build Trust With Your Boudoir Photographer

Creating a trusting relationship requires both parties to be open and show that they can meet the other person's expectations. Here are a few ways you can do that with your photographer before and during your boudoir session.

Do Your Research Before Choosing a Photographer

You probably have some ideas for what you want you boudoir photos to look like. In order to trust that your photographer can deliver your vision, you first need to do some research.

This includes:

  • Checking reviews to learn about other clients' experiences

  • Looking at their portfolio to make sure their style aligns with yours

  • Reading the About section on their website to learn about their credentials and values

Before you ever speak with them, these resources will tell you a lot about the photographer and what it's like to work with them.

Be Honest During Your Consult

A boudoir consult involves a questionnaire that will collect details about your style, why you're doing a boudoir shoot, and how you're feeling going into your session. You'll have the chance to speak with the photographer and ask questions about the process.

Make sure to be upfront during this call. If you're worried or self-conscious about anything, don't try to hide it! A good boudoir photographer will want to be aware of these things and help you work through them during your shoot.

Share Feedback During Your Shoot

While you're in the studio, don't be afraid to tell your photographer if you're feeling uncomfortable. There may be other poses or a different set they can suggest that will help you feel more at ease.

Feedback goes the other way, too — your photographer should show you glimpses of some your photos throughout the shoot so you can see how amazing you look! This really helps build up your confidence.
